One of the most significant changes in the new ISO 45001 standard over previous OH&S programs involves a completely new approach to accident prevention. Under previous safety programs, improvements were often made after an accident and analysis showed a weakness in the safety protocols. With ISO 45001, the new standard requires companies to be more forward thinking and proactive when it comes to accident prevention. The mindset of organizations will need to shift from correction-mode to prevention mode.

As a result of further improving the safety culture by placing an emphasis on preventing accidents, companies can expect a significant impact on the workforce. Employees will see a deeper concern for the welfare of the employees and community. ISO 45001 will help drive efficiency and quality. When fully implemented ISO 45001 will drive operational excellence. Increases in productivity, efficiency, quality, and safety will significantly reduce stress on the workers!
